Analagous

"A colour wheel that presents an analogous colour scheme. Green, yellow and blue coloured in.

The analogous colour scheme consists of three colours that are beside one another on the colour wheel. Two of the colours are usually a primary colour and the third one is usually a mixture of the two. For example – yellow, green-yellow and green.

When used badly, this colour scheme can feel like a bit of an overkill. The key to using this colour scheme is to balance the use of the colours and combine them with neutral colours (beige, taupe, grey, white, cream, brown).

A rule to follow is the 60,30,10 rule. 60 is the dominant colour, 30 is the secondary colour, and the 10 is used as the colour that pops. To understand this – look at a patterned item and notice how frequently the different colours appear throughout it.

Much like the monochromatic colour scheme, it is important to incorporate different textures, prints and materials in order to create a well-rounded look.
